TWIG® Special Inspections Agency (TWIG® SIA), offers Special Inspection services as per the new NYC Construction Codes where Special Inspections have now replaced Controlled Inspections f or all construction projects currently filed with the New York City Department of Buildings.
To enhance the safety and integrity of construction processes, effective July 1, 2009, every construction project in the NYC, approved under the 2014 New York City Building Code, must be inspected and tested by approved Special Inspection Agencies, with qualifications set to consistent standards and firm requirements.
Special Inspections are similar in scope to Controlled Inspections, with a number of additions, and they are defined in Chapter 17 of the 2014 Building Code and the Department's Special Inspections Rule. Special Inspection Agencies must be independently accredited by the International Accreditation Service (IAS), or an equivalent agency accrediting to ASTM E329-07 international standard, and must be hired directly by the building owner rather than the contractor.
All NYC construction projects that require DOB permits - regardless of size and percentage renovation - now must comply with the NYC Energy Conservation Code (NYCECC) and submit special inspection form TR8.
